Agritech startup Agurotech raises €2.25 million
Financing to make the global food system ready for the future
Amsterdam-based Agurotech has raised €2.25 million in their latest funding round – focused on reaching new audiences and providing their data-driven solutions to farmers worldwide. Founded in 2020 by Joëlle van den Brand and Lilia Planjyan, Agurotech is an agritech startup specialising in insight-guided technologies for precision agriculture.
The company provides farmers with real-time insights that optimises resource use and boost crop yields. By providing accurate, up-to-the-minute data, Agurotech helps farmers make precise decisions, reduce waste, all while protecting the environment. Agurotech’s latest investment not only demonstrates Agurotech’s industry-changing product, but solidifies Amsterdam as a hub for developing agritech startups.
Preparing the global-food system

The rising unpredictability of climate patterns is driving the need for technologies like Agurotech to support sustainable crop production. NASA anticipates that maize and wheat yields may face climate-related challenges as early as 2030. Agurotech offers solutions through advanced sensors that track soil moisture, electrical conductivity, and temperature at depths of up to 60 cm.
Complementing these sensors, their weather stations capture local weather data such as temperature, wind speed, and rainfall —accessible to farmers via smartphones. Additionally Agurotech’s irrigation solutions use this data to provide customised recommendations to farmers about the best water use, tailored to their specific crop and soil types. Their most recent investment will be focused on accelerating their growth across the globe while continuing their efforts in securing an adaptive global food system.
Amsterdam becoming the hub for tomorrow’s table
Amsterdam is home to over 60 agritech companies, and Agurotech is part of this dynamic and expanding network of innovators focused on securing the future of food. Among them is Growy, a vertical farm that specialises in producing microgreens, herbs, and flowers through fully automated systems to make fresh, local, and affordable food. Farmless, another key player – uses microbes and renewable energy to grow food independently from traditional agricultural land. As a center of sustainable breakthroughs, Amsterdam demonstrates the Netherlands' significant contribution to the future of food and environmental conservation.
