Harpsichordist Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya pays tribute to two great 18th-century composers, Gottlieb Muffat and Johann Sebastian Bach. For composers from before the 20th century, each key had specific meanings and feelings. In this programme in De Waalse Kerk, the audience is taken on an emotional journey through all these meanings and feelings. Let's 'Scream Hallelujahs' to Muffat and Bach

For Muffat and Bach, D major was the key of triumph, victory, joy and 'Screaming Hallelujah' (think of Handel's Messiah!). D minor, on the other hand, was more somber, often described as serious, pious and even as 'melancholic femininity'. Nepomnyashchay recently released the music that will be played this afternoon. The album was well received by both domestic and foreign press.

About Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya

Russian-born pianist and harpsichordist Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. She studied at the conservatories of Moscow, Amsterdam and Munich, where she obtained her master's degree. She was taught by Olga Martynova, Christine Schornsheim, Richard Egarr and Menno van Delft. Her talent did not go unnoticed and she won several prizes at competitions, including the Prague Spring International Competition in 2012 and the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig in 2014.

She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, Russia and Asia, appearing at some of the most renowned venues, including the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Barbican Centre in London. She has also performed as a soloist with various top orchestras, including the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of Ancient Music. Nepomnyashchaya has recorded an impressive amount of music under her own name and with Duo Pleyel, which she forms together with her husband Richard Egarr. Her debut album on fortepiano was released in 2009, featuring Mozart sonatas for piano and violin with violinist Sergei Filchenko. For the Brilliant Classics label, she has recorded music by Francesco Geminiani and Luigi Boccherini together with violinist Igor Ruhadze. Her first solo recording for LINN of Gottlieb Muffat's 'Componimenti Musicali' was released in March 2024 to critical acclaim in the music press.
