Oyster Duo

The Oyster Duo, consisting of world-famous pianist Anna Fedorova and her partner, internationally award-winning double bassist Nicolas Schwartz, first met on a beach in Brazil. The two discovered that they shared a fascination for oysters, and so the Oyster Duo was born. Since then, they have conquered international stages with great speed: from the northernmost point of Europe to Australia, from Ukraine to the US, and even the Caribbean, Turkey and Spain, and the duo is now performing in the De Waalse Kerk. About Oyster Duo

They are also active in their own country, for example, they founded the Davidsbündler Music Academy in The Hague. Here, young talented musicians are supported, including 15 young Ukrainian pianists with a full scholarship. This dynamic duo does not shy away from experimenting; they like to make connections between music, visual arts and video, as can be seen in their video in which they play music in masks, enter castles and steal pearls.

About Anna Fedorova

She was only twenty-three years old when Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova performed as a soloist with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie under the baton of Martin Panteleev in a sold-out Concertgebouw. Her impressive performance of Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto was broadcast as a Sunday Morning Concert on Radio 4 and has now been viewed over 41 million times on YouTube. It marked Anna's definitive international breakthrough. With fourteen competition victories to her name, Anna is making a name for herself as an international piano star. She is affiliated with the Dutch record label Channel Classics and her albums garner star reviews. But Anna's passion for music extends beyond the concert hall. In the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, she raised over €500,000 for humanitarian aid organisations with her performances and fundraising campaigns.

About Nicholas Schwartz

Double bassist Nicholas Schwartz began his training in his native Boston, where he studied at the university's music department. His teachers included Edwin Barker and Matthew McDonald. He has regularly substituted with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra. In the 2012/13 season, he was a member of the Herbert von Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

He has won several prizes, including the first prize of the International Society of Bassists and the Stulberg International String Competition. Since August 2013, Nicholas Schwartz has been employed by the Concertgebouw Orchestra. In addition, he has been playing in the Verbier Festival Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra for many years in the summer. With pianist Anna Fedorova, he forms the Oyster Duo.
