Amsterdam Cantorij
This warm summer concert includes works by renowned composers such as the Argentinians Guastavino, Piazzolla and Ramírez, the Colombian Grau and the Brazilian Villa-Lobos. Their compositions are often inspired by folk music and infused with the unmistakable rhythm of South American dance. But the concert also captures the essence of the South American saudade - a difficult-to-translate word that describes a deep sense of loss, nostalgia and melancholy. Whether it's nostalgia for the homeland, melancholy about times gone by, or the longing for a lost love, this music evokes a mix of emotions that is both bittersweet and profound.
Dirk Overbeek accompanies the choir on accordion, and the whole is led by conductor Felix van den Hombergh.
