Benjamin Grosvenor
“He makes you sigh with joy,” The New York Times wrote about Benjamin Grosvenor. The temperamental English pianist in his early thirties has performed worldwide for two decades. Last December he could be heard in the Kleine Zaal with piano quartets by Brahms and Fauré, now he returns with Grieg's famous Piano Concerto. In his hands, the world-famous opening with its imposing piano chords and timpani roll sounds 'refreshingly new' according to the press, and this also applies to his 'spirited' interpretation of the exuberant finale full of Norwegian folk melodies.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 'Eroica'
Ludwig van Beethoven was initially an ardent supporter of the ideals of the French Revolution and Napoleon. That is why his Third Symphony, one of the absolute highlights of music history, was initially entitled 'Buonaparte'. Ultimately, deeply disappointed in Napoleon's vulgar power politics, he changed the name to the more neutral 'Eroica'. The Swedish Norrköping Symphony Orchestra combines this heroic symphony by Beethoven with the most beautiful fragments from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg.
