Falling in love with the sample book of the textile manufacturer Fortin 1825, Paris, Christina Viola Oorebeek researches and creates with poetic and associative freedom, image and sound transformations of favorite textile designs from the 'Book of samples'.

There are also two instrumental pieces based on these associations and fantasies, each linked to evd, two music videos. With sound recordings of these 'live' works, she created electronic music for each video. Together with still images from the 'Book of samples' everything is edited in many ways, creating movements and layers of transparency. The instrumental pieces are performed by great and creative musicians - Reinier van Houdt (piano), Doris Hochscheid (cello), Michel Marang on clarinet and Erica Roozendaal on accordion.

About the composer

Christina Viola Oorebeek is an American-Dutch composer who, after two years as a singer in 'Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks' in San Francisco, left the US in '69 to look around in Europe and worked as a singer-songwriter in London before settling in Amsterdam in 1971. After years of working as an improviser for dance, and studying piano with Willem Brons, CvA, she found her 'true love' in composing. At the age of 50, she went to study composition with Klaas de Vries at CodeArts. She graduated in 1999 with the Composition Prize and has been continuously active as a composer ever since.
