Duo Le Volquete (Colombian folk/Latin/Jazz)
Colombian duo Le Volquete -Julián Jaramillo and Santiago Rivero- are making a short tour through the Netherlands. They use the palmwood marimba, keys and percussion to combine traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms and sounds with more modern influences, such as jazz percussion. This creates a fascinating combination of tradition, innovation, harmony and rhythm.

Sounds from Africa
On the most isolated coasts of Colombia, sounds from Africa still resound, echoing the slavery past. The African balafon was recreated using local materials, and thus the marimba de chonta or palm wood marimba was created. African rhythms and harmonies resonate in the Colombian music styles currulao, bunde and bambuco , in which marimba melodies are combined with very catchy percussion sounds.
