the || apiary
The apiary is a place where bees are kept; a collection of beehives. This band is an electro-acoustic experimental and ambient duo playing viola and electronics. Through field recordings, structured improvisation and poetry they create intricate, living environments; they get lost and find new paths to strange places. In the||apiary there is space to listen, reflect and be taken to new places; an organic softness that the ear is allowed to embrace; whispering in long forgotten languages.
First studio EP
In January 2024, the||apiary will present their first studio EP: ecological||succession . In this work, they meditate on the ecological concept of succession, in which ecosystems change from barren, homogeneous landscapes to landscapes that are alive with sonic activity. “We want to develop this EP to give a voice to our surroundings; to make the landscape sing. Given the situation we are in now (the rapid decline of the planet), it is of great importance that we learn to listen to the things and beings around us. This EP is an attempt to do so.
Fish, Swords & Trombones
Fish, Swords & Trombones is the latest project from Thomas Myrmel, together with Omer Sigler (guitar) and Wytze Minne de Swart (saxophone). Together, this new trio unabashedly explores the delicate material surrounding the precarious situation of Antarctica. Based on Myrmel’s 2019 research on the southern continent, the collection of lyrics about the rapid changes in biology, climate and geography aims to cultivate a renewed love for this beating heart of the planet we call home. Icy synths, crystallized distortions and glaciers of noise wrap Myrmel’s intense vocals in an emergency blanket, grasping at the futile, absurd and joyful nature of yet another distant crisis coming home.
