Evening concert: Stanhope/Bennett, Mozart, Britten
The Australian String Quartet, founded in 1985, represents the string quartet on the oldest continent and does so in a special way. All four musicians play a beautiful instrument by Guadagnini. Furthermore, the ensemble offers challenging programs with an Australian link. Their acclaimed compatriots Paul Stanhope and Lou Bennett grant the String Quartet Biennale the European premiere of their composition for string quartet, this time with the addition of the human voice.

Program
Mozart's Fifteenth String Quartet , the second of the six quartets dedicated to Haydn, is a dramatic work whose atmosphere points to Beethoven's moving late string quartets. Britten also takes a serious tone in his Second String Quartet : the work was written in 1945, in commemoration of Purcell's 250th anniversary. A few months earlier, Britten made a concert tour with Yehudi Menuhin along the recently liberated German concentration camps, an experience that was reflected in this quartet.
This concert will be broadcast live by NTR on NPO Klassiek
