Schuberts Schwanengesang Matthias Goerne + Anton Mejias
Please note: this program is sold out. 'It is my favorite hall, because of the acoustics and the atmosphere.' Thus baritone Matthias Goerne in Het Parool about the Grote Zaal of the Muziekgebouw. And he has performed here more often than any other lieder singer. He sings with ease above a hundred-piece orchestra, but he can also sing beautifully whisper-softly. Enormous drama with Goerne. He meets the young Finnish-Cuban Anton Mejias at the piano. Together they perform the famous song cycle Schwanengesang by Franz Schubert.

The ultimate romantic song cycle
Schwanengesang was almost the last thing that Schubert, then only 31 years old, composed in October 1828. The songs are among his most beloved, such as Der Atlas and Ständchen. Chillingly beautiful and inspired. Goerne has been at the top for 25 years; Anton Mejias is only 23, stands out with his Bach and is a rapidly rising star in the piano firmament. He has performed as a soloist under conductors Tarmo Peltokoski and Klaus Mäkelä, two contemporaries and compatriots who are also rapidly making careers.
