Godspeed You! Black Emperor, formed in 1994 in Montreal, Canada, is known for its haunting post-rock that oscillates between the reassuringly light and the ominously heavy, from excruciatingly tender to terrifyingly dark. Originally a trio, the collective quickly grew into an ensemble with a varying number of members, ranging from 9 to 20 musicians and visual artists.
