Grachtenfestival: Anastasia Feruleva, Floor Le Coultre & Marigold Trio
The string quintet in C major is Schubert's last instrumental work, composed two months before his death in the summer of 1828. It is notable for its special instrumentation of 2 violins, a viola, and 2 cellos. This quintet is perhaps one of the most beautiful chamber music works ever written.

Beautiful dialogues for cello
The two cellos enter into beautiful dialogues with each other. Nothing is more beautiful than the slow movement, with the deep pizzicati in the second cello part and the extended long chords in the rest of the ensemble. It is probably no coincidence that Schubert wrote this phenomenal work at the end of his life and that this second movement is often played at farewell moments. The three phenomenal string players of the Marigold Trio join forces with cellist Anastasia Feruleva and violinist Floor Le Coultre to perform this masterpiece.
