Kate Moore and John Luther Adams: Musical Landscapes and Climate Appeal

Kate Moore will perform two works: The Penetrating Days and Nature from 2019 and a brand new work. The music has become a landscape in There is No One, not even the Wind by John Luther Adams. Climate professor Detlef van Vuuren outlines the scientific context in a lecture. The New European Ensemble sounds the alarm in this program beautifully.

In Days and Nature, Kate Moore uses a music machine by the Hague artist Peter van Loon to emphasize that an ecosystem is also a precisely tuned 'machine'. She expresses the growth of a tree, from a vulnerable trunk to a forest giant with a wide fanning canopy. There is no one, not even the wind… (2017) by John Luther Adams is a meditation on the emptiness and loneliness of the desert, but it is not difficult to listen to the intensely melancholic music as an elegy for nature.
