Two Dutch choirs and six top soloists
The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra has invited two successful Dutch choirs for the traditional passion concerts: the Rotterdam Laurens Collegium and the National Boys' Choir. Together with six top soloists, they perform Bach's St. Matthew Passion under the direction of Ivor Bolton. This versatile British conductor was a regular guest at the National Opera in Amsterdam. His opera expertise ensures a surprising interpretation.
Bach's St. Matthew Passion
It has been almost three hundred years since Johann Sebastian Bach first performed his St. Matthew Passion in Leipzig, but the eloquence of this masterpiece is still strong. Bach's musical explanation of the last days of Jesus is brilliant, compelling and moving. Anyone who hears the opening choir is immediately captivated by this music's almost otherworldly beauty and intensity. Other highlights include the moving soprano aria 'Blute nur', the comforting alto aria 'Erbarme dich' with the famous violin solo and the overwhelming choral work 'Sind Blitze, sind Donner'.
