Karima El Fillali
Last year, singer Karima El Fillali shone in 'Yara's Wedding', NITE's acclaimed musical theatre performance. Now, she brings her long-awaited solo show, in which she collaborates with fantastic musicians on old and new instruments from East and West. Her endearing singing takes on an extra spatial dimension with the help of the spectacular, all-encompassing speaker installation from 4DSOUND.
Karima El Fillali
Traditional Arabic music
El Fillali gives traditional Arabic music a 21st-century update. She uses age-old poetry by Sufi mystics such as Mansur al-Hallaj and Ibn Arabi about love, light and darkness, joy and sadness. At the same time, her music is strongly influenced by Western classical music, hip-hop, and art pop.
Mohamedou Ould Slahi
Introducer Mohamedou Ould Slahi is a writer in residence at NITE. Slahi, originally from Mauritania, has a strong connection with the Sahara's spiritual heritage, poetry, and cultural background. He was wrongfully imprisoned without trial in Guantánamo Bay for 14 years. His book Guantánamo Diary was adapted into a film in 2021 as The Mauritanian.
This is a production by Muziekgebouw Productiehuis in collaboration with 4DSOUND.
