Kristia Michael & Alex Mastichiadis: Among Echoes

A modern twist to a historical instrument

In Among Echoes, Kristia Michael and Alex Mastichiadis combine the renaissance with new music, from both known and unknown composers. With her bright voice and the poetic sounds of his clavichord they create an intimate ambience, while also pushing the boundaries of their respective instruments.

Since the late medieval period the soft, expressive sound of the clavichord have been used for intimate performances. Musicians were using its nuanced dynamics to play in a style which wasn't possible on other keyboard instruments. This feeling of intimacy inspired Among Echoes to spiritual introspection. By combining vocals with clavichord, this project enriches the landscape of contemporary experimental music.
