MaDaBa

MaDaBa, founded in the spring of 2023, consists of talented artists from different backgrounds. Nawras Altaky, a masterful Syrian singer and oud player; Sjahin During, a dynamic percussionist from Turkey and the Netherlands; Tony Roe, an expressive Dutch pianist and electronics artist; and Ghaeth Almaghoot, an experienced clarinettist and duduk player from Syria, bring a unique blend of Magam from the Middle East and contemporary jazz.

Tradition and innovation

Their original compositions combine enchanting melodies, dynamic rhythms and captivating stories. In the lively world of improvisation that arises, tradition and innovation are seamlessly intertwined. The name 'MaDaBa' pays tribute to an ancient city in the Levant called 'The City of Mosaics' and reflects the group's passion for merging past and present. With their music, MaDaBa wants to create a meeting point between the East and the West; they want to contribute to bridging cultural influences and exploring new musical horizons.
