You might already know Rodrigo Amarante. Perhaps you've heard Tuyo, the theme song for Netflix's Narcos, or the album Little Joy, recorded with Fab Moretti and Binki Shapiro. Maybe you've come across his collaborations with Gal Costa, Norah Jones, or Gilberto Gil, or seen him perform with the Brazilian samba big band Orquestra Imperial or the Rio rockers Los Hermanos. Rodrigo Amarante's second solo album, Drama, is a departure from his debut. Drama is intentionally caricatural, cinematic, and elusive, unfolding like a vivid narrative. The album journeys from a foreboding opener, through a love story on the dance floor, an ode to friendship, to a track reminiscent of Astrud Gilberto's prime.
