Rodrigo Amarante

Brazilian singer-songwriter Rodrigo Amarante comes solo to the Small Hall of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. He is probably best known to the general public for the title song he wrote and sang for the successful Netflix series 'Narcos'. In addition, he has made an impression worldwide in the past ten years with two albums, 'Cavalo' (2014) and 'Drama' (2021). And he has done much more: collaborations with Norah Jones and Gilberto Gil, among others, and he is a member of various bands, such as Orquestra Imperial and Los Hermanos.

Rodrigo Amarante

You may already know Rodrigo Amarante. Maybe you’ve heard Tuyo , his theme song for the Netflix drama Narcos , or the album Little Joy , which he recorded with Fab Moretti and Binki Shapiro. Maybe you’ve heard his collaborations with Gal Costa, Norah Jones and Gilberto Gil. Or maybe you’ve seen him play live with Brazilian samba big band Orquestra Imperial , or with Rio rockers Los Hermanos . Or maybe you’re not familiar with Rodrigo Amarante, in which case you should check out these two solo albums: his 2014 debut album Cavalo , and his 2021 sophomore solo album Drama .

Drama

Rodrigo Amarante's second solo album Drama is very different from his first album. Drama is deliberately caricatural, cinematic, elusive. The album can be listened to as a colorful story. From the ominous opening number, via a love on the dance floor, via an ode to camaraderie, to a song that Astrud Gilberto could have sung in her heyday. But ultimately nothing on this album is what it seems...
