Mahler plays Mahler

The world-famous conductor and composer Gustav Mahler (1860–1911) paid a visit to the Rijksmuseum on 23 October 1903. He was deeply impressed by Rembrandt’s The Night Watch and later compared the painting to the Nachtmusik (night music) in his Seventh Symphony. The Gustav Mahler in the Netherlands display at the Rijksmuseum presents the original music manuscript of Mahler’s Seventh Symphony alongside 20 works on paper.
