Mel Bonis

Meet one of the most talented female 19th-century late Romantic composers: M��lanie Bonis. She studied with classmate Claude Debussy at the Conservatoire de Paris. She signed her works with 'Mel Bonis' so as not to be recognized as a woman and therefore miss out on recognition. Her work is associated with composers such as Cesar Franck, Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré.

Mélanie Bonis regarded her piano quartet in D major as her musical testament, the highlight of her chamber music work.
