Opening Concert Amsterdam 750 by the Weespertrekvaart Men’s Choir
As Dries Roelvink made clear on AT5 (May 2023) in the Jordaan, it is crucial that the Amsterdam song regains widespread recognition. Therefore, the Weespertrekvaartmannen want to draw attention to the Amsterdam song through various performances as part of the celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary. This includes the opening concert on 27 October 2024 at the Van Houtkenkerk. Please note: The spoken and sung languages will be Dutch.

Weespertrekvaart Men’s Choir
Since 1993, the Weespertrekvaart Men’s Choir has sung the "Other Sea Song” with heart and soul. Their repertoire includes songs about water, polders, dikes, seafaring life, and Amsterdam. But above all, they sing about love, nostalgia, longing, and homesickness.
The choir performs (poetic) texts by Jacques Brel, Ramses Shaffy, Jeff Hofmeister, Rowwen Héze, Jeroen Zijlstra, Thé Lau, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Bertolt Brecht, Slauerhoff, and occasionally traditional sea shanties. They alternate between choral singing and solos by their members.
Most of their songs are in Dutch, but their repertoire also includes German, English, and even Italian numbers. The conductor even sings in Neapolitan!
