Mozart's Last Symphony
It is perhaps the most beautiful symphony ever written, Mozart's last symphony, number 41, also called the Jupiter Symphony. That nickname did not belong to Mozart himself, but to his impresario Johann Peter Salomon, who probably wanted to refer to the unsurpassed beauty and genius of this powerful symphony with the name of this Roman supreme god Jupiter. In addition to this impressive symphony, the Orchester National de Metz will also play part of Mozart's beloved Eine kleine Nachtmusik and the compelling overture from his opera Così fan tutte.
Louis Schwizgebel plays Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saëns
Louis Schwizgebel has been a guest at the Concertgebouw before, including with piano trios by Beethoven and Shostakovich. This summer, the Swiss-Chinese pianist returns with the Orchester national de Metz with Saint-Saëns's Second Piano Concerto. Gramophone magazine wrote highly of his recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra: 'Schwizgebel follows Saint-Saëns with great fidelity (…), supplemented with imaginative personal touches.'
