Piano Recital Keigo Mukawa: Bach, Chopin and Ravel

Music from three centuries

The prize winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition opens with Bach's French Suite No. 5, full of clarity, temperament, warmth and cheerfulness. With the Sarabande as a deeply meditative highlight.

He continues with a work by his fellow countryman, Fumio Hayasaka, who died in 1955 and is known as a composer of film music. Of course, Chopin should not be missed. We hear his slightly hallucinatory, gently swaying Barcarolle. Then, back to Bach, Busoni's arrangement of the majestic Chaconne for solo violin.

After the break, a generous portion of Ravel follows. His wonderfully light, bell-like Sonatine, followed by Alborada del gracioso from Miroirs, the pointed, lugubrious aubade of a Spanish jester. And finally, the understated late cycle Le Tombeau de Couperin.

Presentation of the new release of Ravel's double CD

In 2022, Keigo Mukawa recorded Ravel's complete works for solo piano on two CDs. But unfortunately, that edition is only available in Japan. That problem has now been resolved. Because the quality label ET'CETERA has been re-released in Europe in 2024. And an enthusiastic review will soon appear in Listen.
