This year, Entrée, the young association of friends of the Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, uses its forces for an impressive concert to commemorate war victims who have fallen and fallen worldwide. The evening will open musically with enchanting compositions by the Dutch Jewish composer Henriëtte Bosmans.

One of the most important composers our country has known

In 1942, Bosmans was given the stamp 'Joods Geval', a label that deprived her of the right to perform and compose. Despite these limitations, Bosmans joined the Nederlandsche Kultuurkamer and found support from resistance heroine Frieda Belinfante, with whom she previously had a passionate relationship from 1922 to 1929. She is one of the most important composers our country has known. Her story, steeped in resilience and perseverance, is told with connecting language by presenter and concert pianist Lineke Lever.

Two minutes of silence

At 8 p.m., there will be two minutes of silence in the Concertgebouw, just like in the Netherlands. Together, we watch the National Commemoration at the National Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam via a livestream. After the two minutes of silence, 22-year-old neo-soul singer Gaidaa takes us on her musical journey, performing powerful songs with the young Academicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. This evening is more than a concert; it is an invitation to jointly commemorate and reflect on the war victims of then and now.

Gaidaa

Gaidaa, the 21-year-old Sudanese-Dutch singer-songwriter, is a striking neo-soul talent. She had her breakthrough in 2018 with the Full Crate-produced song A Storm On A Summer's Day. One of her best-known songs, Morning Blue, is an emotionally charged piece deeply rooted in her connection to the civil war in South Sudan. This powerful song is a testament to Gaidaa's talent for storytelling and conveying emotions through her music. Her debut EP Overture received positive responses from Pitchfork and The Fader. Gaidaa's most recent release, Transit, collaborated with world-renowned producer and DJ Moby.

Lineke Lever

Presenter Lineke Lever will reflect on the theme of 'commemoration' during this concert. As a concert pianist and Neerlandica, she likes to seek collaboration between both disciplines. Lineke has already made various storytelling concerts in which she plays music and tells extensively. She is touring the country with a storytelling concert about writer Rhijnvis Feith and Frieda Belinfante, with whom composer Henriëtte Bosmans had a relationship.
