Beethoven specialist Ronald Brautigam
Ronald Brautigam, who turns 70 this year, is a regular at the Concertgebouw. He regularly performs with the best orchestras, usually with music by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. "I would be happy with just Beethoven," Brautigam once said in an interview. He has not only recorded all of Beethoven's solo works for piano, but also all 5 piano concertos twice. 'Live and interesting from beginning to end', wrote Trouw about Brautigam's most recent recordings of Beethoven's piano concertos.
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5
The Dutch master pianist has previously been a guest with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. This time, he plays Beethoven's adventurous Fifth Piano Concerto, also known as the 'Emperor's Concerto'. It was an impressive concert of unprecedented length, in which Beethoven searched for the boundaries of the genre. The Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra also plays the sunny Serenade, opus 22 by Dvořák, a five-movement work for strings full of irresistibly attractive melodies.
