salute
Felix Nyajo, or salute, was born in Asperen. Nyajo's older brother introduced them to R&B and hip hop from the 90s as children, which inspired them to learn to play the keyboard and later to produce themselves. The move to Manchester brought them into contact with the British club scene, where they were inspired to further develop their sound and release music themselves. A few years later, they have built an impressive live reputation, performing at major venues such as Coachella, Boiler Room and Glastonbury.
TRUE MAGIC
For TRUE MAGIC, salute took a more songwriting and collaborative approach, renting a house in the countryside with artists including Disclosure, Empress Of, Sam Gellaitry and piri to work on the album. TRUE MAGIC is a more pop-oriented take on salute’s brand of soulful, melodic house music, while also drawing influences from genres such as garage and techno. The album’s sound and aesthetic were inspired by old Japanese car adverts, which salute spent hours watching on YouTube.
