Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Alexander Gavrylyuk
This season, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the string ensemble with a golden edge, has its Spotlight series in The Concertgebouw. The players continue to build on their good relationships with various musicians. One is the pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, 'a very sensitive musician', according to violinist and artistic director Candida Thompson. She looks forward to an evening with Schubert's Trout Quintet and Brahms' Third Piano Quartet. This is an excellent opportunity for the leaders of Sinfonietta to present themselves to you in a chamber musical context.
Schubert's Trout Quintet
In several important chamber music works, Schubert returned to earlier works: the Rosamunde quartet and the quartet Der Tod und das Mädchen. The fourth movement of his only piano quintet, the Trout Quintet, contains variations on his song Die Forelle, in which a frisky trout is eventually caught. This open and sunny piece also has dark moments - like all compositions by this composer.
