Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras

The world-renowned cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras is the ideal interpreter of Robert Schumann's lyrical Cello Concerto. This work was never performed during Schumann's lifetime but later gained almost cult status because of its mysterious, dreamy middle section. Queyras has not previously soloed with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, so this concert is a unique opportunity.

Maxim Emelyanychev

The young Maxim Emelyanychev proved himself to be a particularly versatile and communicative conductor upon his debut in 2021 and was immediately invited back. He combines Schumann with 'classical' symphonies by Haydn and Prokofiev. There is a good reason why Prokofiev's First Symphony from 1916 was nicknamed 'Classical'. Haydn might have sounded like this if he had lived in the twentieth century. Haydn is represented at this concert with one of his last symphonies, composed in London: the symphony 'with the timpani roll' – rightly one of his big hits.
