In Schumann's Dichterliebe, the jubilant cry of a man madly in love can be heard. Just married to Clara, he expressed his irrepressible happiness in no fewer than 138 songs. He selected the sixteen most beautiful ones for Dichterliebe. Just hear how delicate that song Im wunderschönen Monat Mai is. Brahms was less lucky in love and mainly expressed his melancholic feelings in his songs.
