Will Liverman sings familiar classical repertoire, but lesser-known work suits him just as well. The American baritone is an all-rounder, sought after on the big stages. He recently won a Grammy for best opera recording, a production of the Metropolitan Opera: Fire Shut Up In My Bones by Terence Blanchard. For his recital in Amsterdam he joins forces with the Dutch pianist Daan Boertien. He mainly focuses on song accompaniment and is sometimes called 'a singer on the grand piano'.

The English language has open vowels and few double or hard consonants, our sharp g is unknown on the other side of the North Sea. That makes English eminently suitable for the art of song, and of course also the pleiad of poets who provide the most beautiful texts. Songs by the Englishman Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also by the Americans Harry T. Burleigh and William Grant Still bear witness to that. Their work is supplemented in this concert with songs from two other languages that have produced the most wonderful art of song: French (Poulenc) and German (Richard Strauss).
