Live improvised music and a yin yoga class intertwine around mystical poetry for a deep journey inside. The magic of the yoga concerts boards near the Oosterpark during spring. This Saturday morning, the sitar of Tammo Heikens will bring an extra flavour of India to the yoga mat, André Meeusen is guiding the yin yoga, designed around a poem.

Sitar in the polder

The long career of Tammo Heikens started with the conservatory and studying with an Indian legend, ‘sitar player of the century’ Budhaditya Mukherjee, after which he departed for a musical journey along concert halls, sufi temples, radio and tv shows. He cooperated with musicians around the world, in Holland his playful sound can be heard on the albums of Dana Devi. This season, he was one of the main characters in the television series 'Sitar in de Polder', as Dutch master of this 21-string Indian guitar, once popularised by the Beatles.

What is a yoga concert?

The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart. In this way, the live improvised music, yoga postures, and mystical poetry intertwine, affect, and strengthen each other into a new experience.

Practical info

Venue open: 10:45 am.

Bring your mat if possible, a water bottle and props if you want. There is a limited amount of mats available: send an email to info@songofyoga.nl if you want to secure one. The class and poetry will be bilingual.
