Michael Mayo
Fly
On the album 'Fly' Michael Mayo sings his own compositions as well as standards like 'Just Friends' and 'It Could Happen to You' and songs by Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis. Live he can switch between the most diverse styles and skills, from neo-soul to bop and from crooning to beatboxing. Michael Mayo was trained under the supervision of Herbie Hancock, who realized early on that he was dealing with a super talent. Michael did not get it from a stranger; father Scott Mayo played saxophone with Earth, Wind & Fire and mother Valerie Pinkston was a background singer with Whitney Houston and Beyoncé, among others. Father and mother can also be heard on 'Fly', as well as big names from contemporary jazz such as Shai Maestro, Linda May Han Oh and Nate Smith.
