Immerse
Watching a performance by the Zehetmair Quartett is like watching a tightrope walker without a safety net, as was once reported in The Guardian. “As a listener, I want to immerse myself in music, understand its structure and be moved by the beauty of the proportions and the richness of the passion,” says Thomas Zehetmair, primarius and founder of the Zehetmair Quartett. This statement illustrates the intensity with which he and his colleagues work.
String Quartet
Few composers have felt Beethoven's shadow as strongly as Brahms. The string quartet was sacred to him, and he burned twenty before publishing his first work. This opus 51 no. 1 has the same key, C minor, as Brahms' 'First Symphony' – another difficult work. Like Beethoven, Sibelius wrote meaningful words in the score of his string quartet. What did the Voces Intimae whisper to him in his head? For Anton Webern, 5 minutes were enough to share his intimate thoughts in 'Sechs Bagatellen'.
