Holland Festival - Wilting Flower by Daan Gielis
A glowing neon sculpture as a penetrating observation about nature and the passing of life: this can be seen in the Frascati theater and is part of the Holland Festival.
Holland Festival - Wilting Flower by Daan Gielis
The transience of the flowering process
Daan Gielis grew up with plants—his mother is a florist, and his father is a landscape architect—and was attracted by their transience. Wilting Flower fuses the spectacular beauty of flowers with the science of their transience.
The glowing light of the neon sculpture, embedded in a different space for each exhibition, enters into a dialogue with the context. What does it shed light on? Wilting Flower, which resembles a childish, cartoonish flower drawing, becomes a universal sign. In its simplicity and poetic appearance, it makes you think about intertwined opposites: life and death, nature and culture, melancholy and innocent joy.
