Elaborations

"Elaborations" is Dilruba Tayfun’s (b. 1995. Antalya, Turkey) second solo exhibition in Amsterdam, culminating a new phase of her years-long practice of acting as both custodian and collaborator to natural objects found through exploratory walking. The exhibition is on view at Meterhuis in Westerpark, February 2 through February 24.

For this exhibition Tayfun has embraced large format painting with three pieces cut from a single roll of ten-meter-long linen canvas – each work an homage dedicated to an object originating from a specific geographic locale. The exhibition takes the premise that all objects are already laden with their own temporality, history, and cosmology.

The resulting paintings identify the deep kinship that exists between human and plant worlds. Emerging from the backdrop of a damaged planet, careful attention is directed back to oft overlooked plants and foliage. The exhibition is an abstracted expression of the ancient, at times mythological, ecological structure in which we continue to live on earth. Elaborations is dual in meaning: an extension of Tayfun’s practice into an immersive scale, as well as a continued expression of nature’s objects into new and generative forms.

The exhibition is accompanied by a month-long events program together with artists, musicians, writers, and conservationists. Sign up and book your spot to upcoming events as part of the program via Tayfun's linktree.
