Life at Galaxy

MS Galaxy

The MS Galaxy is currently a temporary home for 1,500 asylum seekers and status holders, of whom approximately 300 are between the ages of 18 and 27. Stichting De Vrolijkheid organizes weekly art workshops for these young adults. Earlier this year, some of them participated in a photography workshop led by Eyas Matouk. For eight weeks, they recorded their daily lives in the asylum seekers' center with their cameras. The result, Life at Galaxy , offers a glimpse into this phase of their lives.

Stichting De Vrolijkheid creates art in Dutch asylum seekers' centres (azc) through a network of professional artists, volunteers, children, teenagers, young adults and parents. Every week they organise 100 creative workshops in azc's throughout the Netherlands. De Vrolijkheid has been doing this for over 20 years.
