Lines, Bumps, & Curves - Miguel Luis Calayan

This is a collection of photos about bodies, identity, and the relationship between the two. Through a series of portraits of three individuals, we see how our unique anatomies dictate how we are perceived and, through that, how we feel about ourselves. This event is in line with Pride as we celebrate the diversity of our bodies. It will be at Cloud Gallery on 267 Prinsengracht. The opening is at 18:30 on Thursday, 25 July.

Lines, Bumps, & Curves by Miguel Luis Calayan

This exhibit explores our different anatomies and the ways they embody identity. It’s about the meanings we assign to the markings and contours of our bodies. What stories do we tell through scars? What about muscles? Or tattoos? How does the shape of ones breasts affect one's idea of gender?

These photos also explore how the body gives an opportunity to declare one’s identity and regain agency. It’s not about maintaining certain body parts and aesthetics; it’s about maintaining control over the stories that we tell and embody. Their bodies are maps. They’re full of bumps and curves, but they get to draw the lines.
