Motherhood as a theme

Motherhood is at the heart of the exhibition. In modern interpretations of the Madonna and Child, Thecla reflects on themes that are both deeply personal and universal. Her work shows the complex expectations that women face: the pressure to fulfill traditional roles and to carry everything alone. “This paradox touches me deeply and fuels my work,” says Thecla.

The creative power of women

The title CATTLE refers to attempts to control and tame the creative, creative power of women, like cattle. The works explore this dynamic, where vulnerability and strength go hand in hand.

Compared to her recognizable earlier work with bright, striking colours, this exhibition often uses a more natural palette that is on the one hand more subdued, but at the same time deepens the emotional charge by making it rawer and more direct.
