Slackwater x Holly Hendry
From January 16, the artwork Slackwater by Holly Hendry can be seen on the Y-slope of NDSM. For the translation of Slackwater to NDSM, Holly Hendry has 'interwoven' a pipeline system (which can be found everywhere at NDSM) with the terrain and its history. Hendry uses steel pipes as the intestines of a space, as a way to look at larger systems and the social fabric of a place or city. With Slackwater , Hendry connects these industrial materials of steel pipes and cable reels with the maritime history of NDSM. Placed on one of the ship slipways, the artist wants to make a physical translation of the 'entanglement' of bodies (which are largely made of water), the water (the IJ), the city of Amsterdam and the urban landscape, both on a conceptual and visual level.
About Holly Hendry
Sculptural, monumental, playful, British artist Holly Hendrys work explores the backside of things. Hendry is concerned with what lives beneath the surface, from hidden underground spaces to the inner workings of the body.
