Something with ..... Paradise

One thing is certain; we will all die. How do you deal with this inevitable prospect, the decline, the loss of loved ones? How do you want to live and die? To what extent can and do you want to keep control over life and death in your own hands? Are you a fortune seeker who chases Eternal Youth with medical and chemical stopgap measures? Is seeking happiness also determining for yourself when and how you want to end your life? Where do you seek your own paradise? In life, death, or life and reconciliation with death? Is death the end of everything or a new beginning, or is everything one? How controllable is life and death in your paradise, and is it only for you? Do you want to leave something behind, contribute, or do you survive with all your might?

In IETS MET...PARADIJS artists show multidisciplinary work on the theme of (sur)viving with transience. Within the time span of two seasons the exhibited work changes. In the dark winter Death plays the leading role, in the light of spring Life (with Death) gradually takes over this role.

Curator Hetty van Bommel Artists part 1

Initiator Hetty van Bommel, started her career by expanding the Burial Act in 1998. With her Ashes Firework as a means of pressure, she encourages mourners to create their own farewell rituals now that more is possible and allowed. Death is a recurring theme in her work, both philosophically, anthropologically and politically.
