Boxing together

Surely exercising together is better than drinking together? Koike Hess thinks so. And that's why he started organising 'vrijmiboxing' in 2022: free kickboxing training on Friday afternoons. "This way you'll start the weekend fresh instead of with a hangover." For 24 Hours West, he will lead the training on Saturday morning.

During the coronavirus pandemic, our Friday afternoon drinks sessions disappeared, and punching bags appeared on street corners. After the pandemic, the Friday afternoon drinks returned and the bags vanished from the streets again. This was a shame, says boxer and entrepreneur Hess. "As a former professional kickboxer, I don't drink alcohol. So I was always there for Friday afternoon drinks. I prefer to start the weekend sporty."

During this Friday boxing session, there will be no beer, wine or bitterballen, but a DJ, sports drinks and professional trainers. This way, you'll wake up the next day with a fresh head, and let's be honest: who doesn't want that?

Vrijmiboxing is one of the projects that was awarded a subsidy from the Amsterdam 750 Foundation, which, on the occasion of Amsterdam's anniversary, donates money to fantastic neighbourhood initiatives and other plans surrounding the celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam.

Practical information:

Limited shin guards and boxing gloves are available for loan at this event.
