Flower Days

Every year, the traditional Flower Days are organized in Limmen. In the spring, the village, with approximately 7,000 inhabitants, is transformed into a sea of spring flowers. Many mosaics and crafts made of hyacinth flowers are spread throughout the village in the gardens of the inhabitants.

The hyacinth flowers (nails) are processed in different ways. First of all, there is the traditionally used technique in which the nails are placed loosely on a sloping plank, this is called the beun. The participants can also pin the nails one by one on tempex or glue them in mesh constructions, so that the representations can stand upright. In this way, spatial objects can also be made, with workpieces sometimes reaching the height of the gutter. The help of mesh, constructions of concrete reinforcement and nowadays even electric motors is often called upon to make moving objects.
