Food and Film night - New in Amsterdam

In 2014, a small village in Drenthe with only 150 residents was suddenly assigned a centre for 1400 asylum seekers by The Hague without consultation. Emotions ran high, and the village became a symbol in the media for the fear that many felt about the country being overrun by refugees.

After the news cameras left, director Sander Francken and producer Robbert van Lanschot began filming and continued until the centre closed in 2017.

What happened in and around the village after that turbulent beginning was unexpected. This can be seen and experienced in the documentary "ORANJE – HOW A SMALL VILLAGE CAN BE GREAT" (2020 – 96 min.). This is the full version and a premiere for Amsterdam.

The film is followed by a Q&A and a social gathering with drinks.
