ARTIS-Micropia

Visit the world’s only microbe museum in the heart of Amsterdam, 10 minutes from city center. At ARTIS-Micropia a hidden world becomes visible. A world full of life, so small you cannot see it with the naked eye. Yet without microbes there would be no life on Earth.

About ARTIS-Micropia
ARTIS-Micropia is the first and only museum in the world dedicated entirely to microbes, 10 minutes from city center.
They are everywhere, in the air, on your skin and in your gut. They make food taste good, keep you healthy and maintain balance in nature. Microbes are essential.
At Micropia this invisible world comes to life through living microbes, microscopes, interactive displays and stories from the lab technicians.
May holiday at Micropia - Micro Mission
During the Micro Mission young explorers discover which microbes are responsible for the oxygen we breathe. Through puzzles, activities, and questions, you collect letters that together form a word.
Did you know that without microbes, we would never have existed?
The Micro Mission is available daily during the May holidays, between 10:00 and 17:00, and can be picked up for free at the cash desk.
ARTIS-Micropia is located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Take tram 14 from Amsterdam Central Station to ARTIS. Tram lines 7 and 19 also stop nearby. Metro station Waterlooplein is a 10-minute walk away.
Want to discover more?
With a combination ticket you can also visit the ARTIS-Groote Museum, where you discover how everything is connected, human, animal, plant and microbe. Or step outside into ARTIS Zoo and experience nature up close.
