Madness

After years of battling panic attacks, Başak consults a modern-day witch in Istanbul and discovers that her fear is rooted in her family��s past. She learns that her grandmother, who was labeled “mad” and ended her own life, is haunting her. In order to rid herself of this presence and avoid a similar fate, Başak embarks on a journey into the mysteries where she turns to Lilith for help. With the audience’s help, Başak will delve into the depths of madness and seek light in the darkness, navigating the thin line between reality and fantasy as she grapples with the haunting question: “Am I the one who is mad, or is it the Divine?”

About Başak Layiç

Başak Layiç, born and raised in Istanbul, is a multi-faceted theatre maker, storyteller, artistic director and community builder. She moved to the Netherlands in 2019, became a storyteller at Mezrab and wrote her first play, "The Millennial Immigrant," for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Since then, she has worked in over 30 productions in the Netherlands.

Başak’s work delves into deep philosophical questions mixed with comedy and a certain musicality, making her stories stick in your head like a catchy melody you can’t stop humming – only less annoying. She is currently exploring innovative ways to integrate music and spoken word, believing that the fusion of these elements can create a more immersive and emotionally resonant experience for the audience. This exploration will culminate in her upcoming solo performance, ‘Divine Madness��, which aims to harmonize storytelling with musical rhythms and melodies, amplifying the depth and impact of her stories.
