Forbidden loves
“Good Kenyan girls make good Kenyan wives,” but Kena and Ziki have very different plans. Despite the political rivalry between their families, their friendship endures.
They support each other in pursuing their dreams in a conservative world. As love blossoms between the two girls, the friends are faced with a choice: do they choose their happiness or their safety?
The film Rafiki premiered in Cannes and its release was banned in conservative Kenya. After much campaigning, the film was shown in cinemas for a week. The main language of this film is Swahilli and English and the subtitles are also English.
