Let yourself be inspired by Van Gogh's sister-in-law

Get involved with creative empowerment project 'Ik ben Jo', in collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and the Alliance Samen Sterk met Werk.

Jo van Gogh-Bonger is central to this project. Learn just how Vincent van Gogh's sister-in-law, the woman who made him famous, is an inspiration for Amsterdam's women today.

At this exciting event there will be creative workshops by teachers from the Van Gogh Museum. You can also hear and see how art comes to life at Vrouw en Vaart.

Hajia Zaki tells the story of her father, artist Abdellah Zaki, and how she, as a 'contemporary Jo', is committed to his artistic legacy. Participants of Vrouw en Vaart also tell their own stories about their special relationship with art.

Program

The open-access program lasts from 12:30-17:00

12.30 – Walk-in

13:00-15:00 – Short introduction to the project 'I am Jo', workshops on almond blossom painting (13:00) and letter writing (14:00) by the Van Gogh Museum (max. 12 participants per workshop)

15.00-17.00 – Storytelling and spoken word. The 'contemporary Jo' Hajia Zaki tells her story, Nabila reads a story based on two of her paintings, plus reading of the letters written during the workshop

17.00 – Closing of the program

Continuous:

• Exhibition 'Emotional painting'
• The story of Jo and the exhibition at Vrouw en Vaart can be heard continuously through 'silent disco' headphones.
• Animation and PowerPoint with information about 'I am Jo'
