ADE: LudoWic

Artist and musician Thijs Lodewijk/LudoWic brings a unique forgotten instrument to life during ADE in the Koorzaal (in the basement of Het Concertgebouw). The Trautonium was one of the first synthesizers, developed in 1929. LudoWic is the proud owner of such a Trautonium and one of the few who plays this instrument. Whoever hears the Trautonium, hears both the past and the future. Nostalgia hand in hand with innovation.

SUPER8 MEMORY: The Trautonium

LudoWic’s new album SUPER8 MEMORY spotlights the Trautonium, an early synthesizer invented around 1929. Played via a string, the Trautonium allows for unique, expressive interaction with sound, making it both nostalgic and futuristic. Nearly 100 years after its creation, LudoWic aims to revive this "forgotten" instrument. As one of the few people worldwide who owns and plays it, he creates music that freezes time, blending past and future.

LudoWic

Artist and musician Thijs Lodewijk, known as LudoWic, merges music and visual art. Initially choosing music after studying at art school and conservatory, he specializes in experimental electronic music, using vintage analogue equipment. LudoWic has composed for artists like Wende, Lakshmi, and Sevdaliza, co-producing Wende's Edison-winning album Mens. In 2023, Lodewijk exhibited his visual art and performed at November Music and ADE.

ADE and the Concertgebouw

Since Trouw at Concertgebouw with Henrik Schwarz, Darkside and Patrice Bäumel (2013), ADE has become an indispensable part of Het Concertgebouw. Every year, Het Concertgebouw presents one or more special concerts during the festival, exploring the interfaces and boundaries between electronic, classical and timeless music. For example, Weval, Kiasmos, Junkie XL, Niklas Paschburg, Youssou N'Dour, Binkbeats and Nils Frahm have been guests in recent years. After DJ Sasha's performance in 2014, 3voor12 wrote about electronic music in Het Concertgebouw: 'If God was a DJ, he wants this to be his house'.
