Piano Nights with Daria van den Bercken and Michiel Borstlap

In Piano Nights, the piano is in the spotlight and you will hear the most beautiful piano music of all time. Two pianists each bring a completely different repertoire. Daria van den Bercken can safely be called versatile. She is one of the best concert pianists in the Netherlands. In this concert in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, she will play famous music by Chopin, one of her favorite composers. Michiel Borstlap always searches for a balance between, as he calls it, 'head, heart and gut' and goes back to the origin of music that arises from chords, melody and rhythm.

Piano Nights

For example, expect wonderful romantic sounds from Chopin, but also the captivating works of Einaudi. The past editions of Piano Nights have featured great pianists, such as Iris Hond, Thomas Beijer, Jan-Willem Rozenboom and Hannes Minnaar. Tonight, the stage is for Daria van den Bercken and Michiel Borstlap.

Daria van den Bercken

Daria van den Bercken can safely be called versatile. She is one of the best concert pianists in the Netherlands. She is also a podcast maker, artistic director and founder of the Piano Biennale and you may know her from the successful RTL-4 program De Piano . Daria prefers to bring her piano playing to the audience. For example, she drove along the Amsterdam canals playing the piano and even played hanging from a crane above her audience. She made an international splash with the projects Handel at the Piano and Keys to Mozart .

Michiel Borstlap

Playing from the heart is paramount: 'There is no room for compromise. You rely on your feeling to get both yourself and the audience in a certain mood'. The silence between the notes is important: 'less is more'. Influences from Chopin, Satie or Philip Glass always shine through in Michiel's own sound world. In addition to his solo work, Michiel has worked with legendary artists from very different genres in recent years: Ludovico Einaudi, Janine Jansen and Herbie Hancock, to name just three.
