At the movies in the Great Hall
When film music is played in the Concertgebouw, conductor and film composer Dirk Brossé is usually on the stand. This time, together with Philzuid, he brings highlights of the living legend John Williams, one of the most famous film composers ever. In addition, there is overwhelming music by Wagner and Strauss, used exceptionally effectively by filmmakers in blockbusters such as A Space Odyssey and Apocalypse Now.
Flying heroes
The soundtracks that Dirk Brossé and Philzuid have selected almost all refer to flying heroes from film classics. Think of the fluttering snow-white little owl Hedwig in Harry Potter, the superhero with his red cape in Superman and Man of Steel, the flying hero Peter Pan from the film Hook and the little boy from ET who floats through the air with the alien hidden in his bicycle basket. But also flying bullets and helicopters in legendary war films such as Apocalypse Now and Platoon and floating celestial bodies and spacecraft in science fiction films such as Star Wars and A Space Odyssey.
